e-Books Not Just for Indies Anymore!

When the big boys decide to come on over and play, hopefully it will bode well for the overall industry. Here's a neat article about Harlequin teaming up with noneother than Lightning Source.

From the article:
"Harlequin Enterprises Limited, the world's leading publisher of series romance and women's fiction, today announced distribution agreements with three electronic content providers that will launch Harlequin in the North American e-book market.

Under the agreements, a variety of titles from Harlequin's bestselling women's fiction and romance series publishing programs will be available for download on handheld devices, computers and cell phones by three key distributors-Lightning Source, Motricity's eReader.com and OverDrive."
It's really interesting to see them come on over and try something new but you'll need to read it all for yourself to find out all the juicy details.

Review: How to Write a Successful Book Proposal in 8 Days or Less

"...remove those rose-colored glasses because it's time you understand that publishing is a business. Enter this field with any other mindset and you will fail..." says author Patricia Fry--and anyone who's been in the game for more than just a few months knows exactly what this statement means.

In many cases, writing a book isn't as simple as it sounds. Doing it right involves ample preparation, research, deliberation, and more--a process meant to ultimately provide a publisher a definitive reason why they should want your work.

And "How to Write a Successful Book Proposal in 8 Days or Less" is designed to help both novice and veteran authors alike learn how to do just this with only eight easy-to-follow lessons.

From actually writing the proposal to locating an appropriate publisher through selling yourself and promoting, Fry walks an author through this sometimes difficult process one step at a time.

But it's not just the lessons that are helpful. By including a sample query, synopsis, outline, biography, chapter outline, as well as market analysis and strategies, the author will be able to observe how the material should be assembled in order to present their own unique professional vision.

Originally an eight-week course which was transitioned into a "work at your own pace guide," this book is intended to help one craft a sound book proposal in less than one week--in other words, it's another rather handy item for any author's bookshelf.

Well Done, Patricia!

Mystery, Horror, and Mayhem in the Spotlight

"By the light of the silver moon...
realms to other worlds open,
murderers and thieves hide among shadows,
and monsters and demons come out to play."

Amidst the goblins and gremlins associated with the month of October and Halloween comes Silver Moon Magazine's free debut issue.

Highlighting the darker genres of mystery, horror and science fiction/fantasy, Silver Moon isn't a typical zine. Included in its more than 50 pages are six short stories in the above noted categories to entertain, interviews and a book excerpt to introduce some of the hottest authors and publishers, and columns to humor and enlighten readers and writers.

Reviews of both books and movies with mystery, horror, science fiction topics as well as a page of classifieds and a "Letter to the Editor" page will be expanded and/or added in future issues. Reader comments and submissions from talented authors are welcomed.

Visit www.SilverMoonMag.com to download your free issue of this magazine. For a limited time a special offer to subscribers is available. Find the details within the pages of October 2005 issue.

A little more about Silver Moon Magazine:

Silver Moon Magazine is a bi-monthly mystery, horror, and speculative fiction magazine for readers and writers.

Short story submissions are now being accepted.

We are open to new authors as well as previously published authors. We prefer character driven stories with solid plots in all genres we represent. Because we strive to be a magazine for young adults and up, we also look for stories that would generally provoke a PG-13 rating.
